Data Center Technician

The Data Center Technician will be responsible for installing new services, assist with testing, resolve incoming trouble tickets, document activities, and troubleshoot new servers.


  • Install new servers as Linux cluster grows
  • Test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs
  • Install switches, routers, and other network gear
  • Fix broken servers (replace hard drives; replace bad sticks of RAM, etc.)
  • Perform custodial duties for onsite tape backups and offsite tape storage
  • Upgrade server component firmware
  • Service and maintain servers at 3 different locations in the Sunnyvale and Santa Clara
  • Monitor server health (CPU load, bandwidth, disk usage, etc.) using third party software
  • Respond to issues, inquiries, and complaints relayed by tier I and II Customer Support
  • Escalate high priority issues according to documented procedures
  • Promptly respond to requests (server moves, server re-kicks, server reboots, etc.) from Linux System Administrators, Windows System Administrators, and DBAs
  • Write reports, document activities, and respond to queries


  • AA degree
  • Minimum of 2 years working with PC hardware
  • Experience with Dell server firmware and BIOS upgrades
  • Experience with physically racking servers in a data center environment
  • Experience running Cat5 and fiber in a data center environment
  • At least one year of Linux experience


  • Familiar with remote installation of Linux OS
  • Basic knowledge of network fundamentals
  • Microsoft Windows Server experience a plus
  • Must be able to work 3 rd shift
  • Ability to work independently and multitask
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills
  • Able to read and comprehend complex software and technical reference manuals
  • Able to communicate (verbal and written) to technical and non-technical personnel
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel between multiple data center locations
  • Able to lift/move up to 50 lbs. of equipment on a regular basis
  • Work under pressure to meet deadlines and conflicting demands

  • High degree of honesty and integrity
  • Team-player, positive attitude, and flexible
  • Must be comfortable with adult content
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
