Job Description:

Technical Operations is a part of Data Engineering group and is responsible for ensuring that the technical, data, and processing needs of the business are met through the efficient operation, availability, and maintenance of the data processing systems that support the SAT, PSAT/PN, AP, CLEP and other College Board programs, products, and services.

Successful candidate will be a software engineer with 3+ years experience and a good understanding of full stack development and operations. The Data Analyst/Operations Engineer II will have the opportunity to code a cloud-based solution that is part of the modernization effort involved in the data transformation, migration and delivery for an AP Reporting Cloud Solution.

Successful candidate will be familiar with industry best practices in Web development field, service development & delivery, web front-end, back-end development tools & techniques and software security.

The Data Analyst/Operations Engineer II will work with the AP development teams and assist with development and/or operation of tools, applications, and/or services that are needed to facilitate both new and existing processes.

The Data Analyst/Operations Engineer II is accountable for making certain that day-to-day business operations for the client's programs and products are adequately supported from a technical support standpoint and operate in a high quality, and highly reliable manner.

The Data Analyst/Operations Engineer II must also work closely with IT/OPs staff and team members to validate the quality of data exchanges and to ensure systems are operating as expected.

The Data Analyst/Operations Engineer II will solve complex data and system-related issues, and along with direction from the Sr. Operations Analyst/Engineer, and is expected to solve them using a variety of technical and analytical skills, and be able to document and standardize the processes for solving those problems. A successful candidate will generate efficiencies and mitigate risk within the data engineering group, through sound technical analysis, and will generate value for the business by using creative efficient solutions to solve immediate business problems.

responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Work closely with fellow team members, business owners and design teams to create a unified experience for web platforms, and across multiple devices, that will delight our customers.

- Write clean, efficient, maintainable, and robust code.

- Participate in design and code reviews.

- Collaborate with other team members (back-end and front-end) to incorporate their innovations and provide solutions.

- Develop, implement, and/or integrate Web/Mobile applications and back end services.

- Integrate custom-developed and 3rd party applications

- Help to promote service policy, web technology standards and coding standards.

- Develop and maintain an understanding of the business processes of supported products and applications.

- Support Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery.

- Support production as necessary, by researching, analyzing issues, and identifying and/or delivering solutions.

- Ensure assigned operations incidents and problems are identified, reported, tracked, and resolved.

- Support data exchange systems, ad-hoc data requests and extracts using establishes data governance guidelines, security policies and best practices.

- Assist with the development of technical and repeatable solutions or tools to ensure the Production environment is both stable and data quality standards are met.

- Manage production incidents. This includes communications, triage, resolution of issues as feasible (including creation of scripts and/or analyzing logs), engaging IT for code-related issues, tracking of incidents, and coordination with vendor (s) in resolution.

- Analyze impact of changes; assess gaps in existing operational processes.

- Assist the team during high-volume or peak processing dates and windows.

- Promote and implement DevOps as applicable.

Required Skills:*

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in computer science or a related field required.

Three+ years of directly-related work experience in a professional position in software development.

Experience in Technical/Batch Operations and large scale data management operations.

Strong teamwork and collaboration skills required.

Strong process improvement experience required.

Must be comfortable working between business users and IT; familiar with common functions and terminology on both sides.

- Minimum 3+ years' experience in application development

- Ability to write well-abstracted, reusable code for all components

- Good knowledge of OO design principles and able to apply them to create efficient, flexible solutions to difficult problems

- Good understanding of n-tiered Web Application architecture and hosting environments

- Experience with JavaScript, HTML5 & CSS3

- Good understanding of the Java programming language, related optimization techniques, and design patterns.

- Experience with Java application servers (Weblogic, Tomcat), Spring Framework, Hibernate

- Experience with Oracle Databases, relational databases, and NoSQL databases and/or BI tools is preferred.

- Experience with Distributed Service Standards (SOAP, REST, EJB)

- Proficient in any of the following programming languages Python, Node.js, J2EE, Java, and design patterns

- Knowledgeable and Proficient with AWS and/or other Cloud-Based Technologies.

- Deployed and managed mission critical applications using several AWS services like (not limited to) Lambda, S3, Kinesis, EC2, Route 53, VPC & Subnets

- Experience with DevOps and CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, Electric Commander, Chef, Puppet, Salt, Docker) is a plus.

- Experience with Microservices

- Experience working in Agile/Lean development environment

- Excellent software development habits (unit tests, in-code documentation, etc.)

- Scrum Team Member attitude - willingness to support the Team to be successful in any area necessary

- Strong diagnostic, analytic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills

- Strong writing and communication skills

- Ability to handle multiple projects and assignments simultaneously and effectively in a cross-functional team environment

- Self-motivated and oriented towards excellent customer service

- Passion for staying abreast of new/emerging technologies, tools, platforms and API's
