This role has senior level responsibility for all technology solutions for Human Resources functions for Wells Fargo covering all business lines globally. This position will partner with executive and senior HR business leaders to develop the strategy for the ecosystem of technologies that support the 280,000Wells Fargo team members. Charting a transformational path for Wells Fargo HR technology for the long term will be a key responsibility. The role will be responsible for executing against the strategy through development of new or enhanced applications, compliance of systems to all regulatory requirements, and the day to day operations of mission critical HR technology.

The position has accountability for the relationship between EIT and executive HR leaders across all HR functional areas. The businesses supported will be all of enterprise HR which includes Global Payroll, Enterprise Recruiting, Compensation, Benefits, HR Service Center, Talent Development, Enterprise Learning and HR Data Analytics.

Functionally, this position has senior level accountability for all HR related applications which includes technology strategy, solution delivery, application development, day to day system operations, and executive level business relationships. Key systems include payroll for 280,000 employees, recruiting for 4 million job applicants annually, benefits with 80+ benefit vendors, learning with 12 million course completions per year, and HR Service Center supporting team member questions across the enterprise. The effectiveness of these systems has a significant impact on team member engagement, effectiveness and efficiency which is a significant contributor to company performance. Issues with HR Systems have the potential to create significant financial, regulatory, and reputational impacts for Wells Fargo. Any down time would have far reaching impacts across the enterprise and carry significant reputational risk because mission critical applications requiring very high availability and robust BCP and failover architecture Other relevant scope includes responsible for technology solution delivery relating to $ 40+ million in business initiatives each year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overall responsibility for providing technology solutions to the Human Resources line of business including application design, development and support.
  • Define technology strategy / roadmap, provide strategic technology perspective to LOB executive management and recommend innovations, aligned with short term & long term business / customer requirements, enterprise priorities and industry trends.
  • Act as the single accountable senior leader for delivering technology to the Human Resources line of business including all HR functional areas. Represent technology as the senior leader in the associated business senior management teams in addition to relevant business operating and risk committees.
  • Be the broker/author for technology solutions that efficiently and effectively meet business needs leveraging enterprise technology services with a bias towards consistency, standards and common solutions. Provide re-usable enterprise technology services for in-scope technology functions to be leveraged by other enterprise CIO teams.
  • Manage and/or leverage a set of critical services (e.g. PMO, Application Architects, QA, Platform Management) to continually evolve and improve technology delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with other functional areas in the Enterprise CIO group and across EIT (e.g. Technology Infrastructure, Chief Operating Office, and Technology Risk Management) as well as critical enterprise partners (e.g. Enterprise Information Security, Enterprise Data & Analytics, Enterprise Global Services, Corporate Risk, Corporate Finance, HR, Communications).
  • Partner closely with the LOB leaders to ensure that technology initiatives are aligned with business, enterprise and EIT priorities.
  • Demonstrate business partner value by understanding the business, advocating technology solutions to advance business initiatives, incorporating internal / external customer views, and managing key financial indicators to the benefit of Well Fargos shareholders.
  • Manage a large and complex applications portfolio with diverse underlying technology architectures and platforms including legacy and cutting edge technologies. Applications have significant interdependencies and interface with multiple channels and systems of record.
  • Accountable for holistic technology performance including service level agreements, project performance, regulatory compliance, and vendor management.
  • Provide senior technology perspective on industry trends, competitive landscape and market/regulatory changes leveraging industry contacts, vendors, and strategic technology partner relationships.
  • Manage and allocate appropriate people and financial resources to ensure that projects are completed within committed time and budget and align with strategic objectives.
  • Be the senior accountable owner for in scope applications portfolio ensuring strong technology operational risk management and compliance while also driving application portfolio rationalization, optimization and modernization.
  • Assess current staff capabilities, identify talent gaps, and execute talent management actions aligned with human capital strategy.

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in the following: technology development, application development, and implementation
  • 7+ years of management experience, in development and implementation

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience managing large or multiple technology development efforts within a major line of business
  • Ability to effectively partner and influence at the executive level

Other Desired Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience leading highly technical teams and deliverables across diverse application technology environments.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience managing a complex technology organization including managers, technical subject matter experts, individual contributors and vendor resources across multiple global locations.
  • Previous technology leadership experience with HR Systems.
  • Demonstrated prior experiences in effective engagement with operating & management committee executives, board members and external regulators.
  • Strong relevant prior experiences in effective management of technology financials and risk.
  • Ability to effectively drive and lead change in an organization with Wells Fargos size, scale and complexity.
  • Demonstrated experience in building, leading, developing and retaining a high performing team of leaders, strong technical experts and high performing professionals in a cultural environment that achieves results through team member engagement and satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a diverse portfolio of technology efforts across several technology domains & major lines of business and effectively partner/influence at the senior executive level.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the financial, operational, technical and regulatory drivers impacting a complex and dynamic global technology environment.
  • Ability to develop technology strategy, operating model & roadmaps with clear objectives and aligned with business, enterprise and EIT strategies.
  • Broad experience across multiple areas of technology including one or more of architecture, infrastructure and application development with strong understanding of leading edge as well as legacy and distributed technologies to effectively manage the complex and diverse applications portfolio.
  • Proven experience as a highly effective leader with credibility from demonstrating strong business and technology acumen.
  • Highly effective decision-making/critical thinking/problem solving skills with a collaborative and results oriented leadership style.
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with key business partners and translate complex, technical concepts so that they are clearly understood in support of sound decisions to meet business objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience motivating and influencing groups or individuals across organizational boundaries to gain trust and confidence to make timely decisions.
  • Proven experience in establishing a vision, developing the strategy to support the vision, gaining consensus across key functional leadership through effective communication, and driving action towards the vision through the effective management of goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrated vendor negotiation and partnership skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) with ability to communicate at multiple levels ranging from technologists to senior managers and executive leadership.

  • Relevant prior experience as the broker/author leader responsible for delivering technology services and solutions to multiple lines of business in a large dynamic financial services business segment.
