The EIT team helps customers directly every time they do business with the company, delivering a true One Wells Fargo experience and ensuring their security, regardless of channel. To do this, EIT draws on the talents and motivation of thousands of technology team members across the enterprise. Altogether, EIT manages world-wide technology for more than 8,700 stores and 12,500 ATMs larger than Starbucks and The Gap combined.

Position Overview

Enterprise Core Services (ECS) group is a critical component of the Enterprise CIO operating model aimed at providing common, consistent, and foundational software services and solutions to be used across technology at Wells Fargo. Cloud enablement services is a key strategic priority to enable the re-engineering of a significant portion of Well Fargos large and complex application portfolio. Another area of strategic focus is the development and support of core information management services including data technology blue print, common data services, customer relationship management services and customer due diligence services to be leveraged across all technology teams in Wells Fargo to enable strategic risk & regulatory, customer enablement, analytics and innovation solutions. Enterprise Core Services group also includes several foundational services and capabilities such as content management services, market data services, complaints services, technology product management and technology simplification. Enterprise Core Services provides secure, scalable, common and re-usable services & solutions which enable the Enterprise CIO teams to simplify technology offerings and execute on business priorities with enhanced time to market.

The Cloud CTO will be a critical member of the ECS technology senior management team and play a central role in the planning, execution and support of Wells Fargos journey to the Cloud with focus on Software as a Service (SaaS) including cloud enablement services. The Cloud CTO will drive the development, in partnership with Enterprise Architecture, Enterprise Platform Services, CIO leadership and Enterprise Technology Infrastructure, of a multiyear Cloud migration strategy aligned with business, enterprise technology and corporate strategies. A key partner to Cloud Enablement will be the Enterprise Application Portfolio Management function to help analyze the application ecosystem for cloud migration and enable adoption in the CIO teams. The focus on SaaS services including cloud enablement services is aimed at expediting the re-engineering of our large & diverse applications portfolio and integrating our private cloud strategies with risk based thoughtful leverage of the public cloud ecosystem.

The Cloud CTO will be expected to partner with key Cloud stakeholders including technology risk & information security in the adoption and integration with Public Cloud vendors and look to identify and employ solutions that will be most effective in contributing to the success of Wells Fargos Cloud strategy.

The Cloud CTO will also oversee the recruitment and allocation of people and financial resources to ensure technology commitments are met, aligned with strategic objectives, and will make critical technology decisions requiring strong operational risk and customer impact management.

Position Responsibilities and Expected Outcomes

  • Joint responsibility, with key partners, for the definition and execution of the Cloud Strategy, leveraging Private and Public Cloud solutions and services to adopt a Hybrid Cloud model
  • Define technology strategy / roadmap, provide strategic technology perspective to technology and business executive management and recommend innovations, aligned with short term & long-term business / customer requirements, enterprise priorities and industry trends
  • Act as the single accountable senior leader for delivering cloud enablement software services to CIO technology partners and lines of business. Represent Cloud technology as the senior leader in the ECS senior management team in addition to relevant business and technology operating and risk committees
  • Be the broker/author for technology solutions that efficiently and effectively meet business needs leveraging enterprise technology services with a bias towards consistency, standards and common solutions. Provide re-usable, scalable and secure Cloud solutions which can be leveraged across the organisation
  • Engage, partner and enhance relationships with cloud vendors
  • Partner with the Cloud Platform Services and Infrastructure Services teams in developing and executing on Container-as-a-Service (CaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) strategies
  • Partner with Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Database as a Service (DBaaS) leads/teams to leverage and closely integrate with IaaS/DBaaS offerings in the cloud re-engineering of applications
  • Support and evangelize the adoption of and migration to Wells Fargo cloud services
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with other functional areas in the Enterprise CIO group and across EIT (e.g. Technology Infrastructure, Chief Operating Office, and Technology Risk Management) as well as critical enterprise partners (e.g. Enterprise Information Security, Enterprise Data & Analytics, Enterprise Global Services, Corporate Risk, Corporate Finance, HR, Communications)
  • Partner closely with technology and business leaders to ensure that technology initiatives are aligned with business, enterprise and EIT priorities
  • Demonstrate business partner value by understanding the business, advocating technology solutions to advance business initiatives, incorporating internal / external customer views, and managing key financial indicators to the benefit of Well Fargos shareholders
  • Provide senior technology perspective on industry trends, competitive landscape and market/regulatory changes leveraging industry contacts, vendors, and strategic technology partner relationships
  • Manage and allocate appropriate people and financial resources to ensure that projects are completed within committed time and budget and align with strategic objectives.
  • Assess current staff capabilities, identify talent gaps, and execute talent management actions aligned with human capital strategy

Required Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in the following: technology development, application development, and implementation
  • 7+ years of management experience, in development and implementation

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience managing large or multiple technology development efforts within a major line of business
  • Ability to effectively partner and influence at the executive level

Other Desired Qualifications
  • Experience leading the adoption of a Hybrid Cloud model in a large scale enterprise environment including driving the development and usage of cloud enablement services
  • Deep knowledge of multiple private and public Cloud solutions across the major vendor products/services
  • Ability to effectively partner and influence at the senior executive level
  • 12+ years of experience leading highly technical teams and deliverables across diverse technology environments
  • 7+ years of executive leadership experience managing a complex technology organization of large scale, including senior managers, managers, individual contributors and vendor resources across multiple global locations
  • Demonstrated prior experiences in effective engagement with operating & management committee executives, board members and external regulators
  • Strong relevant prior experiences in effective management of technology financials and risk
  • Ability to effectively drive and lead change in an organization with Wells Fargos size, scale and complexity
  • Demonstrated experience in building, leading, developing and retaining a high performing team of leaders, strong technical experts and high performing professionals in a cultural environment that achieves results through team member engagement and satisfaction
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large portfolio of technology efforts across several major lines of business and effectively partner/influence at the senior executive level
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the financial, operational, technical and regulatory drivers impacting a complex and dynamic global technology environment
  • Ability to develop technology strategy, operating model & roadmaps with clear objectives and aligned with business, enterprise and technology strategies
  • Broad experience across multiple areas of technology including one or more of architecture, infrastructure and application development with strong understanding of leading edge as well as legacy and distributed technologies to effectively manage the complex and diverse applications portfolio
  • Proven experience as a highly effective leader with credibility from demonstrating strong business and technology acumen
  • Highly effective decision-making/critical thinking/problem solving skills with a collaborative and results oriented leadership style
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with key business partners and translate complex, technical concepts so that they are clearly understood in support of sound decisions to meet business objectives
  • Demonstrated experience motivating and influencing groups or individuals across organizational boundaries to gain trust and confidence to make timely decisions
  • Proven experience in establishing a vision, developing the strategy to support the vision, gaining consensus across key functional leadership through effective communication, and driving action towards the vision through the effective management of goals and objectives
  • Demonstrated vendor negotiation and partnership skills
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) with ability to communicate at multiple levels ranging from technologists to senior managers and executive leadership
