The WebCMS Developer is key technical contributor in the design, development and support of our digital properties catering to teachers, parents, kids and other customers.

The candidate should have a solid overall understanding of the backend of modern websites. Experience with web content management systems including server and client side templates as well as implementing and integrating with web services and single page apps is a strong plus. He or she should also have a passion for delivering solutions that delight customers and stakeholders while adhering to high quality standards and engineering best practices.

A successful candidate will have the following:

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability with a commitment to delivering high quality software that balance technical and business goals
  • Broad web and digital knowledge, an aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving
  • Strong knowledge of Java and JEE specifications.
  • Be well versed with CI tools and build/release process (using Jenkins, Apache maven, github or similar).
  • Familiarity with developing and using RESTful web services
  • Experience with agile software development.
  • Track record of delivering scalable solutions as well as experience in performance tuning and optimization
  • Ability to establish goals and set clear expectations, prioritize activities, and follow through to completion

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and developing digital properties for our customers including educators, parents and kids.
  • Collaborating with other team members including developers, quality engineers and business analysts.
  • Delivering solutions that meet the functional requirements and that adhere to our engineering best practices.
  • Accepts full responsibility for the completion of activities to the highest quality

Resolves critical path blockers for the team; and drives collaboration across multiple teams


  • Deep knowledge of the contemporary Java ecosystem, tooling, and best practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in both development/testing as well as production environments
  • Experience writing unit tests required. Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior Driven Development (BDD) experience a strong plus.
  • Experience using and developing RESTful services
  • Solid understanding of SQL/relational database concepts
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

The following are beneficial to the position, but not required:

  • Experience with Adobe Experience Manager or other enterprise CMS systems
  • Experience with Spring Boot, Spring MVC and Spring Data
  • Work experience with Java Content Repository (JCR) and/or Mongo
  • Familiarity with front end development including HTML/CSS/Bootstrap markup, server side templates and Javascript libraries such as Angular and jQuery
  • Experience designing software and systems that can operate efficiently and effectively in highly dynamic, highly automated, on-demand infrastructures, such as Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience with Apache Jackrabbit and/or Apache Sling
  • Be familiar in the technologies chosen for developing our web application solutions (e.g. Solr, Demandware, WSO2, MongoDB, MySQL)
  • Experience with hierarchical/XML based storage system
