College of Engineering: Teaching Faculty (Open Rank) – Electrical and Computer Engineering Department

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for multiple teaching faculty positions at all levels and in all topical areas of computer engineering. We seek highly qualified applicants with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the ability to teach at all levels. This is a 100% non-tenure-track appointment on an academic year (nine-month) service basis paid over twelve months.

Teaching faculty positions are renewable, career-oriented, non-tenure-track positions. Initial appointments are typically at the rank of Instructor, Lecturer, or Teaching Assistant Professor, with the possibility of promotion to the ranks of Senior Instructor, Senior Lecturer, or Teaching Associate Professor and Teaching Professor. Teaching faculty positions may also serve as an entry path into tenure-track faculty positions at teaching-centric institutions. Senior-level appointments are available for candidates with significant additional experience, stature, and demonstrated teaching excellence.  Multi-year contracts may be available for the Teaching Professor track after the first year.

Applicants must have at least a Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field. A terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field is strongly preferred, and is required for Lecturer and Teaching Professor positions of any rank. Competitive applicants will show the promise of classroom teaching excellence and will demonstrate strong core discipline knowledge. Successful applicants will join the department’s thriving community of creative, passionate, and innovative teaching faculty who contribute to high-quality instruction, curriculum development, and student mentoring.  Faculty also have opportunities to engage in outreach and service activities such as running summer camps, mentoring professional student groups, and community involvement. Teaching Professors are expected to have a demonstrated interest in improving pedagogy, and may take on leadership roles on campus and in the scientific community to contribute to best practices and/or education research in the discipline.   

The ECE Illinois is top ranked in both undergraduate and graduate education and has approximately 1900 undergraduate majors and over 500 graduate students. We seek applicants that will contribute to the diverse and vibrant atmosphere in the department.
