A utility holding company serving more than 3.3 million electric customers and 1.8 million natural gas customers is looking for a Buyer/Purchasing Agent in the Denver, CO area. This is a 1-year CONTRACT position. No per diem available. Travel required. Work location will be both the main office in downtown Denver and various remote construction project sites.

Responsibilities for the Buyer

  • Ensures daily procurement and expediting needs are met for major capital wind farm construction and fossil power generation projects. Assists in coordinating activities related to procurement of material beginning with intent to purchase through delivery. Analyzes the requirements of the materials needed, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date materials or parts are needed.
  • Manages development and issuance of RFI/RFQ/RFP, coordinates bid evaluations and analysis, participates in supplier selection, and ensures necessary documentation is maintained for low dollar and low risk material and services contracts; investigates and/or interviews potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements. Negotiates lowest possible cost for materials balanced against the optimum quality and schedule needs.
  • Implements purchase contracts that comply with company regulations and requirements. Maintain online approved supplier list. Assures materials are delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets quality standards. Evaluates vendors against service agreements. Follow online standard work procedures and documentation for Supply Chain department.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders and change orders when necessary. Reviews purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy and resolve problems with vendors relating to shipping damage, delayed arrivals, deviation in size or shipment.

Requirements for the Buyer

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university and two to five years related experience as senior buyer/planner and expediter. Utility or industrial capital project construction experience required.
  • Must have knowledge of a variety of computer software applications (SAP, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
