DUTIES: University of Maryland College Park – The Business Manager will be handling/managing the day-to-day business operations (procurements/accounts payable services, account reconciliation, federal grant and contract invoice validation documentation, all pre & post travel duties, etc., for Materials Science & Engineering.

Position will coordinate account reconciliation utilizing departmental account ledgers, Priority (BA3-BA4) Software, Coeus and Kuali Financial System (KFS); coordinate the monthly grant/contract post award invoicing – detail expense submittal to various awarding agencies as requested/required by awarding agencies (ARPA-E, NETLEERE and NASA – current examples). Decisions and recommendations made involve non-routine situations within established Departmental & Institutional protocol, guidelines, and/or policies. This position will report to Associate Director for Finance & Administration.

QUALIFICATIONS: Successful applicants shall have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience breakdown: 3-5 years with a Bachelor’s degree or 7-9 years without a Bachelor’s degree in any combination of budgeting, accounting, payroll, grants and contracts and/or personnel work. Experience working in higher education.

Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff and students from a variety of backgrounds. Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively and write clear and concise reports. Working knowledge of grants and contracts. Ability to maintain proper unit attendance and punctuality standards. Demonstrated ability to carry out assignments without detailed instructions and have the ability to reason logically, analyze and solve problems. Ability to interact with diverse constituencies, including faculty, staff, students and administrators in units across campus. • Possess good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, and Excel; strong communication and customer service skills, excellent attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and multi-task within deadlines in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
