The University of Iowa is seeking a Business Intelligence (BI) Architect with proven experience providing BI solutions as well as experience with data modeling, data mart, and Data Warehouse (DW) architecture. This individual will have an immediate impact on enhancing our campus operational and strategic data-informed decision-making. Through this role, you have the opportunity to provide insights that impact policy, practice and outcomes at the University of Iowa.

As a BI Architect, you will work in a team environment to design, develop, and deliver enterprise business intelligence and analytic solutions.

Specific roles and responsibilities cover the full Business Intelligence development life cycle, including business analysis to solicit end-user requirements, data modeling gap analysis and resolution, solution implementation, testing, and user training. The BI Architect will work with current data sources and extend the BI data infrastructure by developing data marts or tabular solutions. BI Solution development will encompass reporting, operational and strategic dashboards, and analytics. This position will have solution ownership, including providing maintenance, incident management, enhancements and end-user support for BI solutions.

Specific Job Duties:

             Participate in the BI project planning process to establish business requirements, define deliverables, conduct data analysis, and establish timelines;

             Manage BI solutions throughout the project lifecycle (analysis, design, implementation, operational support);

             Collaborate with key functional stakeholders to better understand their business domain, processes and data;

             Develop visually informative dashboards and customized reports based on business requirements;

             Work with data providers to architect, build, test, and maintain BI data infrastructure;

             Design and implement ETL processes to create data pipelines and aggregate data from multiple sources;

             Research new technologies and industry trends, and determine applicability to our campus environment;

             Provide guidance and mentoring for the campus BI Community.

Requirements

Education Requirement:

             Bachelors’ degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications:

             Typically requires 3 to 5 years of experience developing business intelligence solutions.

             Extensive knowledge of data warehousing/business intelligence best practices, methodologies, standards and architectures.

             Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, or Cloud DBs

             Working proficiency with BI technologies such as MS BI stack including SSIS, SSAS, SSRS or MS Power BI.

             Working experience with data warehouse and data mart lifecycle stages; modeling, schema development, and ETL processes.

             Proven track record of delivering BI solutions through the full development lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, development, analytics, implementation, monitoring and support.

             Experience with contemporary BI Tools (Microsoft, Tableau, and Qlik).

             Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills.

             Project management, facilitation, time management and organizational skills.

             Highly developed problem solving, troubleshooting and analytical abilities.

Desired Qualifications:

             Working knowledge of cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP).

             Data modeling and database schema experience.

             Knowledge of industry trends including data mining, visualization and predictive modeling.

             Experience with BI development best practices such as agile methodologies, source code control, issue tracking, prototyping, and testing.

             Experience with R or other statistical programming languages.

             Higher education industry knowledge or experience.
