Your Role and Responsibilities
Job description
In this leadership role, the individual is responsible for leading all Communications disciplines in Vietnam. This encompasses external and stakeholder communications, including media, analyst, and influencer relations and social engagement, as well as employee and executive communications.
The Vietnam Communications Leader must be experienced at operating in a complex, multi-stakeholder and multicultural environment, and be able to collaborate and influence peers at a country, regional and global level.
The role acts as a steward for IBMs brand and reputation, and ensures consistency of messaging across all internal and external audiences. This includes the protection and enhancement of the IBM brand through the application of sound issues and crisis management practices.
He/She takes business direction from the Country General Manager of IBM Vietnam, and acts as a trusted advisor by providing strategic advice and counsel aimed at improving IBMs reputation among all target audiences, and building brand favourability and product consideration.
At a functional level, the role takes direction from the ASEAN Communications Leader and the VP for Communications in Asia Pacific.
The Vietnam Communications Leader is responsible for developing and executing a Communications strategy in support of business objectives and key plays, such as Signature Moments. The role must also seek to continuously expand capability and expertise within the cross communications team.

Key responsibilities:
  • Develop a comprehensive Communications strategy in support of the business objectives at a global brand, region or country level, and aligned to the national agenda.
  • Oversee the creation of compelling campaigns underpinned by corporate storytelling and aimed at influencing media and IT analysts, and driving positive impact with clients, business partners, industry bodies, governments, influencers, and alumni. This work undertaken in collaboration with Government & Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Citizenship, Sales, and the Business Partner organization.
  • Build and sustain a cohesive team environment by providing clarity and direction, and fostering a culture of excellence, cross-collaboration and recognition. Identify and develop the leaders of the future through a focus on learning and skills development.
  • Act as a spokesperson to IBM's key audiences and communicate IBM's position convincingly across all platforms and mediums.
  • Possess an in-depth awareness and understanding of IBM's business strategy, offerings, and the competitive landscape with the ability to speak with authority on these subjects. This includes undertaking competitive positioning to ensure that IBMs value proposition and competitive differentiators are clearly communicated.
  • Develop and execute sound issues and crisis management programs at speed to reduce any negative impact on IBMs brand and reputation. Participate as the Communications representative on the Crisis Management Team within a global brand, or at a region or country level.
  • Utilise social and digital media as a means of amplifying IBMs message, including the use of paid media.
  • Demonstrate an applied understanding of audience segmentation and messaging development, multichannel communication program design, and content delivery through technology platforms and tools.
  • Set and track progress against communications measures of success for brand, geography or market. Use insights derived from measurement to course correct, and communicate value and impact to business stakeholders.
  • Develop internal communications campaigns designed to connect all IBMers to the company through our corporate character and the IBM Values and Practices.
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, define and deliver a program of work aimed at driving employee engagement across the IBM workforce in a brand, region or country.
  • Drive organisational transformation programs and change communications to broad variety of employee segments, including sales, delivery, technical, and staff functions.

Skills & Experience
  • Not less than 8 -10 years experience in Communications, and at least five years operating at a senior leadership level, including people management. Fluent in English and Vietnamese.
  • Experience working with a multi-national corporation, either in an in-house capacity or with a Communications agency.
  • Experience in technology highly valued, although not essential. Cross industry experience or a background working with start-ups is also advantageous.
  • Experience providing professional advice and counsel at senior executive levels.
  • Highly collaborative with the ability to lead a cross-functional team of senior-level professionals around strategic planning and communication program implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive an innovative approach to communications that focuses of high impact activities that clearly showcase a companys value proposition and competitive differentiators.
  • Possesses excellent communication skills including the ability to speak effectively to groups in formal and informal settings.
  • Possesses a comprehensive view and understanding of social media, and digital content and asset production.
  • Experience using tools that enable a data-driven approach and fact based decision making.
