The College of Engineering at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is inviting applications for two tri-partite, full-time, tenure-track Faculty members, at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Professor of Mechanical Engineering. The successful applicant will begin August 2018. Candidates in all Mechanical Engineering disciplines are welcome to apply.

The Mechanical Engineering Department at UAA has experienced steady growth since its inception in 2005. There are approximately 300 undergraduate students enrolled in the ABET-accredited Mechanical Engineering baccalaureate program. The Department’s M.S. in Mechanical Engineering program was established in 2014 and with a new Fast-Track Option approved this year, this program is expected to grow.

The Anchorage campus offers a full complement of programs and courses, including in high-demand fields such as engineering, health, business and education, as well as in the liberal arts and sciences. UAA career and technical education programs are closely aligned with Alaska’s core industries, such as engineering, aviation, oil and gas. The College of Engineering has strong ties with the local industry, providing exceptional opportunities for industry-sponsored research projects. The University of Alaska Anchorage prides itself in providing faculty with the tools and opportunities necessary to achieve excellence in teaching, research, and service, while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.  For more information, please visit https://www.uaa.alaska.edu/academics/college-of-engineering/

Experience the “Big, Wild Life” at the University of Alaska Anchorage. UAA is the largest of the three main campuses of the University of Alaska system, serving nearly 20,000 students. Anchorage, the largest city in Alaska, is a vibrant community with an ethnically diverse population of 300,000, offering a lively intellectual and cultural life. UAA maintains close connections with Anchorage-based government, business and nonprofit employers, giving students a wide range of opportunities for internships, research and real-world experience. UAA’s campus is connected to 250 miles of trails where students and employees can enjoy wooded seclusion, mountain vistas and ocean views.

The Alaskan summers range from highs in the 60’s and 70’s and can even reach into the 80s for periods of time. The best part of Alaska summers are the long days. Despite the reputation, during the winter months Anchorage actually has a warmer climate than other cold-weather cities like Chicago or Minneapolis because it’s on the ocean. An average of 79 inches of snow falls on Anchorage every year. The city offers ready access to state and national forests and parks, year-round outdoor recreational activities, and a strong sense of community that makes it attractive for growing families. Anchorage is also the hub for business and industry in Alaska, and leaders of those communities actively seek to employ UAA graduates.
