Job Description

The Enterprise Business Technology (EBT) Stress, Performance, Load, and Infrastructure (SPLI) team is seeking a talented Performance Engineer to support multiple mission critical applications vital to Wells Fargos day to day operations. These distributed systems process millions of transactions a day, and support some of the largest internal applications and portals within the bank. You will have the opportunity to work with an engineering staff numbering between 1-6 individuals located within the continental US as well as in our EGS offices (India) while providing in depth analysis of performance testing results as well as tuning recommendations to our systems architect teams. You will partner closely with our Functional QA, Development, and Environment Support teams to schedule Load, Soak, Stress, and Capacity tests working to identify performance bottlenecks within a complex infrastructure and ensuring quality product releases to the production environment.

The platforms you will be supporting are built on C/C++, JAVA, .NET, VBA, ORACLE, SQL, XML and HTML. As well, you must be adept at analyzing SPLI testing results and be comfortable with working closely with Developers/Systems Architects and be proficient at providing recommendations regarding performance opportunities. Additionally, you would be responsible and accountable for project life cycle deliverables relating to performance testing, from planning to analysis to results presentation and monitoring of production performance. You will provide performance test exit criteria with respect to key performance indicators and defects found and ensure the credibility of test results relative to being production like as much as possible with emphasis on test data profiling and conditioning, scale factors, load rates, and virtual memory profiling.

You must be a self-starter and be able to work well both independently and in a team environment with confidence. You have experience with moving performance test engineering into the design and development phases of the SDLC. You have proven written and verbal communication skills are a must. To be successful you must also have leadership

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of application development and implementation experience
  • 1+ year of performance tuning experience
  • 5+ years of Performance Center or LoadRunner experience
  • 5+ years of experience testing web-based applications developed in Java or .NET framework

Desired Qualifications

  • Good verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • A BS/BA degree or higher
  • Knowledge and understanding of networks spanning multiple business functions and geographic locations
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environment
  • Good analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

Other Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with and debugging including garbage collection, core dump analysis, contention/concurrency and other bottleneck measurements
Proficiency in performance tuning and memory management
Ability to build complex SQL statements and to apply C code to manipulate strings.
Proven ability and experience with complex enterprise systems and frameworks including front-ends, middleware, services layer, database, back-end and downstream interfaces.
Applied knowledge of the following LoadRunner protocols: Web, Web Services, C Vuser, Citrix, JAVA, Micrsoft.Net, MS SQL Server, Oracle and Sybase.
Experience working collaboratively with business analysts, quality assurance and technical development resources.
Ability to interpret the needs of application development team and make recommendations to enhance test coverage.
5+ years of experience testing web-based applications developed in Java or .NET framework or simiar frameworks
Experience in agile or iteratiative testing environment

  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
