Our client has a permanent opportunity for an Application Support Manager in Sacramento, CA.

This position manages staff, applications stack, and other technical services, as well as provide daily guidance, direction, and support for our client's Enterprise Business Applications (EBA) Support Team.

The Application Support Manager works directly with the technology department to implement and mature application maintenance processes using ITIL service catalog concepts, and ensure alignment to existing application development frameworks for writing, testing, and production implementations.


  • Participate in the development of standards and procedures as well as enforcement of such standards and IT policies.
  • Establish clear lines of communication with the various business units. Determine, document and prioritize their needs and establish agreed upon service levels.
  • Manage back end legacy systems: Oracle JDE
  • Coordinate with IT Governance to ensure that application development and support work follows best practices, internal standards, policies and are developed pragmatically. Support contributors in execution and delivery of architecture tasks.
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise on business system architecture and application integration, analyzing business requirements and crafting appropriate, cost-effective, and logical solutions.
  • Develops and implements formal change management processes for IT business applications.
  • Set standards for Systems management, Systems integration and systems development across the organization.
  • Manage back end legacy systems: .Net/MSSQL custom application, Oracle JDE, and vendor supported applications
  • Augment staff by providing hands-on support for problem resolution and project completions
  • Manage application maintenance and support staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and conducting annual evaluations and goal setting.
  • Evaluate current tools, as well as processes, in order to constantly improve maintenance and systems availability, and develop required documentation.
  • Ensure critical business application uptime and availability SLAs are met consistently.
  • Communication and Escalation of major priority application outages to IT management and Business.


  • Bachelor of Science Degree in MIS, Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Solid understanding of full software development lifecycle including functional & technical specification, development, documentation, support QA processes, and existing source control.
  • Previous programming experience with code projects involving .Net, Stored Procedures, Powershell/Batch/Bash scripting
  • Familiarity with Javascript, Java, Perl, and other common frameworks/programming languages preferred
  • Prior, proven abilities in understanding critical business and technical metrics, paramount to application support operations.
  • Ability to proactively recognize potential problems and escalate according to policy
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously is a requirement
  • Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving, as well as analytical abilities.
  • Ability to review project objectives and translate them into detailed tasks which are scrutinized and then acted on
  • Excellent communication and customer support skills, as well as work independently and as part of a team when required
  • Ability to explain requirements and technical scenarios to non-technical people
  • Have excellent interpersonal, business management, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to receive delegation effectively.
  • Main point of contact for critical IT communications including communications related to various change events.
  • Experience with Oracle JDE a plus
  • Previous vendor management experience a plus
  • Experience supporting Time and Attendance systems, SSIS and PostgreSQL
  • Strong Knowledge in both Windows and Linux Platforms
  • Minimum 8+ years IT experience; minimum 3+ years application support experience and minimum 3+ years as within a managerial role as an IT manager.
